How it works
Four steps, from your old host to free hosting.
- 1
Save
Everything from your old website: pages, photos and the addresses they live at.
- 2
Rebuild
The same website as simple, fast pages that free hosting can serve.
- 3
Move
Onto Cloudflare, with your own web address connected and secure.
- 4
Redirect
Your old page addresses sent to the new pages, so links and Google still find them.
Why it works
Most small websites don't need a server.
Many small business and club websites are a handful of pages that rarely change: who you are, what you do, when you're open and how to reach you. They don't need a server running plugins all day.
Turn those pages into plain files and put them on Cloudflare, and there's nothing to patch and no hosting bill. That's how the Burlington Wine Club website runs today.
The example
What I did for Burlington Wine Club.
The club's website used to run on WordPress. I rebuilt it as a simple, fast website and moved it to Cloudflare. Here's what that means for the club today:
- It runs on Cloudflare's free hosting. The site is plain files with no server code, so there is no hosting bill.
- Every main page scored 100 out of 100 for performance in Google's Lighthouse speed test on a phone, tested before launch.
- There is no WordPress and no plugins, so there is nothing to keep updating and patching.
- Cloudflare looks after the web address's settings and its security certificate, so the site loads over a secure connection.
- The old WordPress page addresses send visitors to the right new pages, so old links still work.
- The newsletter sign-up still goes to the club's existing email list.
- When I save a change, Cloudflare rebuilds the site and publishes it on its own.
What you'll learn
The same steps, for your website.
- 1Saving everything from your old website: pages, photos and the addresses they live at.
- 2Rebuilding it as a simple, fast website that free hosting can serve.
- 3Putting it on Cloudflare and connecting your own web address.
- 4Sending your old page addresses to the new pages, so links and Google still find them.
- 5Keeping forms like a newsletter sign-up working.
- 6Making changes once it is live.
Is it for you?
Who it's for, and who it isn't.
A good fit if...
- You have a website for your business or club, and it is mostly pages people read: who you are, what you do, how to reach you.
- You're tired of plugin updates, or of paying for hosting every month.
- You like to do things yourself, and you don't mind following step-by-step instructions.
- You want your website fast, and in your own hands.
Not a fit if...
- You'd rather not touch it yourself. That's what Website maintenance is for.
- Your website runs things on its own server, like customer logins or an online shop with checkout. The course follows a site like the Wine Club's, which has none of that.
The price
One price. Pay once.
Website course
$39CAD one time

- Joining the waitlist is free. You pay nothing until the course is ready, and only if you want it.
- Free hosting doesn't cover your web address. You still pay for your domain name each year, as you do now.

Who's teaching it
Jim MacDonald, Edmonton.
I run JM Digital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I moved the Burlington Wine Club website off WordPress and onto Cloudflare, and I look after it today. The course is the same steps, written for you.
